Risographic Printing

Publication design for a poetry anthology by Vancouver’s Lance Odegard.

Lance approached us with an overflowing notebook of work celebrating family, history, life, death & imperfection. Yellowed family photos from the turn of the century sat alongside idiosyncratic, relentlessly personal poems and short stories.

We determined the design direction should draw from the rustic, messy, journalistic feel of the work. Textured, pillowy paper stock and monospaced typography came together with imagery sourced from the US National Archives. We passed up a conventional digital press in favor of the rough tactility of a Risograph printing, and produced the first press run in our studio.

The book was well received, stocked by local boutiques (stop by Le Marché St George for a copy!), quickly necessitating a second (and third!) run of printing.
